The 2nd CTBT Science Diplomacy Symposium was held from 21 May to 1 June 2018 at the Vienna International Centre. Its aim was to raise public awareness of the CTBT's contribution to international peace and security, and to encourage cooperative and collaborative research and innovation on nuclear test monitoring science and technology. The Symposium also hopes to stimulate creative thinking about possible political, legal and diplomatic solutions among diplomats, practitioners and policy makers, academics, and the next generation to the challenges facing the Treaty.
Modeled on courses held by the CTBTO in previous years, the course will offer comprehensive training in the policy and legal aspects of the CTBT, including its entry-into-force and universalization, as well as the CTBT verification technologies and the civil and scientific applications of monitoring data.

The course will also aim to raise awareness about the Integrated Field Exercise 2014 and the development of the on-site inspection regime. In addition, a 2-day simulation exercise of Executive Council deliberations on an on-site inspection request will challenge participants to put into practice the ideas and concepts discussed throughout the course.
